The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) mourns the passing of Hon. Fafa E. Mbye, who served as Chairman of the Governing Council from July 1994 to August 1995. During his tenure, Hon. Mbye contributed to the Centre’s mission of advancing human rights and democratic governance across Africa, building on ACDHRS’s foundational work since its establishment in 1989.
As a member of the Governing Council, a body comprising distinguished African leaders in human rights and democracy, Hon. Mbye played a pivotal role in shaping the Centre’s strategic direction during a critical period. His leadership coincided with ACDHRS’s transition to an independent, pan-African NGO in 1995, a milestone that reinforced its autonomy and regional impact.
The ACDHRS Governing Council, Executive Committee, Management and staff extend heartfelt condolences to Hon. Mbye’s family, colleagues, and loved ones. His legacy reflects the Centre’s enduring commitment to fostering human rights and democratic principles, a mission that continues to guide its work today.
Rest in peace, Hon. Fafa E. Mbye.
