29 APRIL-1 MAY 2023
KAIRABA BEACH HOTEL
The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with the African Commission for Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) will hold a three (3) days Forum with representatives from academia, African civil society/NGOs, international NGOs from Africa and beyond working on democracy, human rights and the rule of law issues, in Republic of The Gambia from 29th April – 1st May 2023, at Kairaba Beach Hotel, Jama Hall.
The main objective of the NGOs Forum is to foster collaboration between and among NGOs working with the African Commission as well as other African Human Rights mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa.
The theme of the NGOs Forum will focus on the African Union’s theme for 2023: “The Year of AfCFTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation”. The theme aims to generate greater political commitment to trade as a developmental Agenda for Africa.
The Forum on the Participation of NGOs in the 75th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and 41st African Human Rights Book Fair will also share updates on the human rights situation in Africa with a view of identifying responses as well as adopting strategies towards improving the situation on the continent.
As the Maputo Protocol clocks 20 years, the Forum will launch the celebration. This panel would provide CSOs with an opportunity to reflect the progress made towards promotion and protection of women’s rights and gender equality in Africa, as well as to identify the outstanding challenges and chart a way forward.
The expected outcomes include the general trends and Situation of human rights, democracy, and rule of law in Africa, Networking and partnership building with and amongst participants/stakeholders, and Adopting Recommendations and resolutions where necessary to highlight them at the opening of the 75th Ordinary Session and Report of the NGOs Forum.
