TRAINING ON PARTICIPATION IN AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE AFRICAN
COMMISSION ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES RIGHT

The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with its partners the African Commission for Human and People’s Rights, Open Society Foundation, the International Service for Human Rights and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner will be holding a Training on Participating in and Engaging with the African Commission on Human and Peoples Right from Saturday 15th October 2022 to Sunday 16th October 2022 at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Senegambia.
The main objective of the training is to equip human rights defenders with the knowledge and skills to integrate the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (“the ACHPR”) into their existing work at the national level in a strategic manner, and provides an opportunity for participants to prepare for and engage in lobbying and advocacy activities at the ACHPR with the aim to effect change back home at the national level.
At the end of the training course, participants would also participate in the NGOs Forum which is scheduled from 17th -18th October 2022, (Forum on the Participation of NGOs in the Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights) as well as the public sessions of the African Commission.
This will enable participants achieve first-hand knowledge in the practical and theoretical solicitation of one of the most important regional and international human rights mechanism, i.e. the African Commission and as well provide a platform to practice their newly gained skills. In addition, the training programme is intended to enable participants to obtain in-depth understanding of the interaction and complementarities of the regional and international human rights systems.
The training which will attract about 30 participants from 18 African countries will be held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Senegambia.
Resource Persons would be drawn from representatives across Regional and International Human Rights Mechanisms.
