The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) will hold a two days workshop with Traditional & Religious Leaders, CSO’s, Women & Youth Groups on advancing Peace building & Reconciliation in the Gambia from the 12th – 13th March 2019, at Paradise Suites Hotel..
The workshop will be organized in collaboration with the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC). The workshop is organized under the project ‘Contribution to the Peace and Reconciliation process in The Gambia, through sensitization, dialogue and exchange activities between women and youth at community level’ funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) and to be implemented by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) and The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC).
The workshop seeks the participation of 40 participants which include: Religious and Traditional Leaders, CSO’s as well as Women & Youth Groups at community level with the expertise of the African Centre and its network of partners and associates within the Gambia.
The objectives of the workshop are to assess the impact of the TRRC process so far and how it may impact on the national healing and reconciliation process; to discuss and share views on possible mechanisms and strategies for facilitating individual and community reconciliation; and make recommendations on ways the TRRC can exploit traditional/religious methods and strategies of reconciliation to fulfil its mandate.
