The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) and its partners will hold a three (3) day Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop on African Human Rights Systems & Mechanisms from the 17th – 19th October 2018, at the Paradise Suites Hotel.
The TOT will be organized in collaboration with the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR), the World Alliance for Citizen Participation (CIVICUS), the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR), and the National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH). The Training of Trainers (TOT) is an activity under the project ‘Consolidating civil society’s role in the transition from African human rights standards to practice’ funded by the European Commission (EU) and to be implemented by the International Commission for Jurists(European Institutions and Kenya branches), Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS).
The objective of the TOT workshop is to build the capacity of Trainers to equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for an efficient and more effective way to engage with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for strategic advocacy and litigation. It will serve as an induction especially for those HRDs with little or no prior experience engaging the African human rights system.
The TOT will bring together prominent human rights defenders within Africa as well as lawyers, journalists, professors and civil society organization representatives. The Training will consist of about 30 participants from Africa. The TOT would cover topics centered on, the United Nations Human Rights System, the African Human Rights System, The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and related Protocols, The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights as well as allow participants and organizers to share experiences on their engagement with the International and Regional human rights systems and mechanisms.
