The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) on Sunday concluded its Steering Committee Meeting held from July 27-28, 2024 in Banjul.
The pivotal meeting aimed at strengthening our network and enhancing our collective impact. This two-day consultation brought together sub-regional and diaspora focal points to review progress, address challenges, and strategize for the future.
Our goal is to foster deeper collaboration, ensure effective representation, and align our efforts with regional and global priorities.
Below are key takeaways from the meeting:
1. NGOs Forum Progress: Since 2018, the NGOs forum has significantly increased its global influence and UN involvement. To maximize this, we’re focusing on enhancing collaboration with UN bodies, CSOs, and other stakeholders.
2. Enhanced Reporting: We’re developing a systematic approach to annual and biannual human rights reports for Africa. This will provide timely, comprehensive updates on human rights conditions across the continent.
3. CSOs Engagement: Challenges persist for CSOs in participating with the African Commission due to logistical issues and limited slots. A new panel will address these issues and work towards more effective engagement.
4. Strategic Planning (2024-2025): A new schedule of activities has been prepared with goals for better coordination, rotating meeting venues, and securing funding.
5. Network Expansion: We plan to engage new networks to broaden our outreach and collaboration, enhancing our advocacy efforts.
6. Upcoming Forum (Oct 13-15): The Forum will cover key themes set by the African Commission, new panels, and important issues like human rights violations in Africa.
Stay tuned for more updates and join us in advancing human rights!
