With immense sadness, the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) learnt of the passing away of Mr. Aldiouma Cissokho, the Chairperson of the Association of Mauritanian Refugees in Senegal on 1st February, 2021.
Mr. Aldiouma Cissokho was a friend, colleague and prominent human rights. He worked particularly to defend, promote and protect the rights and freedoms of Mauritanian refugees deported to Senegal in 1991 due to the conflict between Senegal and Mauritania at that time. An indefatigable fighter, Mr. Cissokho was both a humanist and a Pan-Africanist who worked for a lasting peace and a peaceful coexistence between and among the people of Africa.
Mr. Cissokho’s passing is a great loss to the Mauritian refugee community in Senegal and partners of the human rights community that he has worked with over the years.
He was a frequent participant at the NGOs Forum organized by the ACDHRS prior to the Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. He would always visit the ACDHRS offices anytime he was in The Gambia. He will surely be missed.
On behalf of the Governing CouncilACDRSACDChairman, Management and Staff of the ACDHRS; the NGOs Forum Steering Committee Members, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues friends and loved ones.
May his gentle soul rest in peace!
