31st OCTOBER 2019 – METZY RESIDENCE HOTEL – KOLOLI, THE GAMBIA
The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with the Women’s Forum for Peace in Casamance (PFPC), and the Guinea-Bissau Women political platform (PPMGG) organized a women peace table for the first time on 31st October, 2019 in The Gambia.
The theme of the Peace Table was: The Proactive Actions of the Peace and Security Forum in the Senegal-Gambia –Guinea-Bissau zone.
The Gambia’s peace table was an opportunity for creating a dialogue environment between the different actors in order to consolidate the country’s stability, and back up efforts to consolidate peace and the peace building process in Senegal. It is in direct link with the Ziguinchor’s first peace talks’ forum recommendations, among which, the setting of a movement order for peace and security in Senegal, the Gambia and Guinea-Bissau. From this perspective, government agencies, CSOs, and the State reinforced their cooperation in order to reinforce a mechanism which is likely to favour stability, through a synergy of actions, open and permanent dialogue in the Gambia as well as Senegal.
The expected results are: (1) Civil society activists, women and partners in particular, are informed about the evolution of the peace building process In Casamance as well as and sub-regional security challenges; (2) Casamance and Senegal’s women partake in the decision-making process at strategic level through peace tables so as to have their concerns about conflict management taken into account; (3) The dialogue and social cohesion are reinforced in the Gambia thanks to women’s pleading; (4) Combined actions are taken and reinforced between the main actors at vertical and horizontal conflict management levels, promoting peace consolidation in Senegal and the Gambia.
